Amazon has a page on submitting a review, but it’s short on details, has no screenshots, and it tends to assume a level of internet expertise and a familiarity with its website that not everyone possesses. Therefore, I’ve broken the process down into steps, complete with screenshots of each step. To enlarge a screenshot, click on the image, and it will open in a new browser window.

Step 1: Sign in or create an Amazon account.

If you already have an Amazon account, go to www.amazon.com and sign in by clicking on the words Sign in, located above the menu header labeled Your Account, circled in yellow in the screenshot below.

If you do not have an Amazon account, you’ll need to create one. Go to www.amazon.com. In the upper right of the screen, hover your cursor over the words Your Account. A drop-down menu will appear. Under an yellow-orange button labeled Sign In are the words New customer? Start here—as shown in the screenshot below. Click on Start here and follow the prompts to create a new account. Once you’ve done that, move on to Step 2.

Step 2: Go to the book’s product page.

Every item for sale on Amazon has a product page. If you don’t already have a link that takes you directly to the book you’d like to review, you can search for it by typing the name in the box located at the top of every Amazon page—as highlighted in yellow in the screenshot below. Once you’re on the book’s product page, click on the blue link reading x customer reviews—seen below circled in red. This will take you to the Customer Reviews section.

Step 3: Rate the book and write your review.

In the Customer Reviews section of the product page, you’ll see a gray button reading Write a customer review—seen circled in red in the screenshot below. Click on it.

At this point, you’ll see one of two pages, depending on whether or not Amazon is still beta-testing the new review prompt that they started rolling out in early 2015. The ORIGINAL review prompt looks like the one you see below on the left. The NEW review prompt is the one on the right. Determine which screen you’re seeing, and scroll down to the appropriate directions below.
